As Christians we go to great lengths to watch our diet so as not to contaminate ourselves with unclean foods such as pork and seafood. (See: http://www.ucg.org/booklets/CU/ ) We know that God notices every deviation from His commandment not to eat unclean food. We obey with fear and trembling.
We do this because we want to be part of God’s Kingdom. We do this because we want to live with God by accepting His gift of eternal life and because we want to please Him as much as possible to remain in good standing.
We work out our own salvation with fear and trembling. We do not follow the examples and ways of our neighbours. We do what we believe is right. We are not hypocritical believing one thing and doing another. So why would we contaminate our bodies with the blood of a non believer or of one whose blood is contaminated by unclean foods through a blood transfusion?
We believe that keeping ourselves clean by obeying God’s dietary laws is part of the way to salvation. It is part of being a Christian. It is part of the way in which we choose life. Why would one throw away the way to eternal life for a few more moments of physical life? It is simply not the Christian way.
Personally I have no problem with blood transfusions per say only with unclean blood. If you find yourself in need of a transfusion get it from a clean source, a fellow Christian or from having stored your own, if possible, for emergency situations or for planned surgery.
