A NEED TO KNOW

I need to know by age of four
why flowers grow
rivers flow
winds blow
what makes it so?

I need to know
in bloom of youth
what I was taught
held a grain of truth
the lessons I've learned
will help me grow
I'll make it so.

I need to know
in middle age
that I can flee
this self made cage
the pain and woe
that now I know
have tied me so.

I need to know
as I lie abed
awaiting grim reaper
to show his head
that I've done my best
I've passed the test
I made it so
I need to know.
